7 Sins of Email Etiquette
Shortly after discussing email etiquette with one of my clients they sent me this article via email. The article does a nice job of exploring the "softer" side of email etiquette. It deals primarily with communicating your intent clearly. There are good lessons there for everyone.

SEO for local sites
Companies servicing a specific geography are, by and large, not taking full advantage of the Internet. Recently I needed some renovation work done at home and went to the Internet to find a contractor. It was a very frustrating process. I could not find one contractor, of the type I needed, that serviced my city.

There are distinct advantages for companies, think contractors and the like, to optimize for the city they serve. If for no other reason than they may be the only one doing so in their city!

I'm sure this will change over time as more companies use the Internet to market their services. Your local plumber may not have a website today, but he will.

Let me call you.
While doing some research to find some potential clients I noticed something odd. Some web designers build beautiful websites that actually make it hard for potential customers to contact the company with the website. How do they do this? They don't post the company's phone number anywhere on the website. I love the Internet as much as the next guy but sometimes I still want to pick up the phone and call someone!

Not using SEO?
If you aren't doing search engine optimization on your website you should expect that someone else is! There were two situations recently where my client's website was ranked better than supplier of the software they had listed on the site. In both cases if you searched for the product and company name together you found my client's website before the other company's website. This is what happens if you let someone else optimize for your product or service. They may rank higher then you!
